Allen L. Fairfield

Allen Lee Fairfield survived by wife JoAnn, son Craig Bock, brother John E. and Jeannie, sister Joan Gogerty and friend Betty Sell. Granddaughters Lindsay and Jess Taylor and Jacquelyn and Chris Simpson. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s Ron, Bill and Shari, Bob and Roxanne and Richard Deloske and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Preceded in death by parents Albert R. and Edith F. Fairfield. Allen was born in Ottawa Illinois July 27, 1937. His parents moved to Nebraska when he was a small child and he attended Plattsmouth Schools until 1956. Allen grew up on Wintersteen Hill in Plattsmouth working numerous jobs during his youth and making many friends in the Plattsmouth area. He worked for MUD as a young man and was drafted into the army. He served in the army from March 1962 to March 1964 as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and Tool Room Clerk stationed in Fort Lewis Washington where he fell in love with the mountains and remained in Washington for many years backpacking and enjoying wildlife, even purchasing food to feed the deer. After returning to Nebraska he continued his love of the outdoors by working for farmers, gardening, metal detecting, feeding birds and squirrels in his backyard and fishing the local lakes and rivers.

Al knew no strangers. If you were privileged enough to enjoy his company you became a friend that he would remember the next time you met. He was a very generous and caring man who believed neighbors should always take care of one another. Many times he would cook a complete meal for a neighbor or friend who lost a family member, take someone to appointments, pick up mail from the post office or just help out when an extra hand was needed. He was also the unofficial neighborhood watch so neighbors did not have to worry about their houses if they were not home. That roll fit in with his security profession from which he retired from Borsheim’s Jewelry on September 30, 1999. Al’s house was known to many of the dogs in Springfield because it meant a treat was provided if he was in the yard as their owners walked them by. Al also had a love for cats and provided a home for many strays over the years.

Al played football in high school and was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He was also a Nascar fan and spent many Sunday afternoons cheering on Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart.

Al loved his family and was always available when someone needed help. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members who were blessed to know him.
