Alice Melba (Anderson) Picklnpaugh died peacefully June 1, 2026 at Brookstone Village. Alice was born September 7, 1928 in Omaha, NE to Gifford Anderson and Alice (Teal) Anderson. Alice was the third of five children, her siblings being Betty, Bessie, Darlene, and Gifford. The sisters had a very special relationship and remained very close their entire lives.
Alice graduated from Omaha Tech High School in Omaha in 1945. She was introduced to George Pickinpaugh by her brother-in-law, Walt, at a softball game. Before they were married George told her it was his dream to one day live on a farm and asked if she would be willing to move. She assured him she would go wherever he went. They were married within the year on December 3, 1949. Together they raised two daughters: Carol Jean and Elaine Louise.
Alice was a loyal and caring wife and an idyllic mother. She participated as a Girl Scout leader, a room mother, Bible school and Sunday school teacher. She was a nurturing, selfless, patient, and supportive role model.
In 1968 they were able to fulfill George's dream and moved the family to a farm in Coleridge, NE. Over the next fourteen years on the farm Alice enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, and raising small animals like chickens and turkeys. She was well known for fixing home-grown fried chicken for any family members who came to visit, even if some family members preferred "store chicken.'' Right, John White? From her time on the farm, she took away many meaningful, close friendships through card clubs and activities.
As their family grew, George and Alice made the decision to move back to the Omaha area to be closer to their family and grandchildren. Sunday brunches became a weekly routine at grandma and grandpa's house. Family would gather after church on Sunday for delicious home cooked biscuits and gravy made by George and Alice. Alice continued her love for sewing making Raggedy Andy dolls, blankets, and/or cowboy shirts for each grandchild and great-grandchild. Her sewing talents also extended to the Kountze sewing circle where the group made blankets and quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
Alice was a loyal member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church and remained an active member until her health no longer allowed it. Her caring and giving heart led her to serve in the food pantry and cooking many meals with her sisters for church functions. While we will miss the joy she brought to us and others, we celebrate today a life well lived knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband, daughter, and loved ones.
Alice passed peacefully on June 1st. It broke our hearts to see her go, but we celebrate a life of faith, love, kindness, and service. Alice is survived by her daughter: Carol (Steven) Hansen; son-in-law: David (Janet) Drickey; 7 grandchildren: George (Amellia) Hansen, Mark (Natalie) Hansen, Steven (Sunshine) Hansen, Joseph (Emily) Hansen, Matthew (Megan) Hansen, David (Nichole) Drickey, Emily Drickey; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband: George; daughter: Elaine Drickey; siblings; and many other loved ones.
